How Ford As-Built Data and FORScan Configuration Work
Module addresses, blocks, checksums, and the difference between named settings and raw hex.
FORScan gives you two ways to change a module:
- Named configuration ("Configuration and Programming" → a module's settings list): human-readable options. Safest, because FORScan validates the value.
- As-Built Format: raw hex blocks. More options, and much easier to get wrong.
Reading an As-Built line
A line like 726-44-01 xxxx xxxx xx means: module 726 (BCM), block 44, line 01, followed by data bytes. The last byte of each line is a checksum, which FORScan recalculates for you when you edit in As-Built Format.
Online guides often describe a change as "set bit 3 of the first byte" or "change the 2nd digit to 4". Because neighbouring bits control other features, always edit only the digit described and compare against your own backup. Values differ by year, trim and options, so copying an entire line from someone else's truck is how features get switched off by accident.
